Dear Mulberry Families,

Welcome to another exciting new school year at Mulberry School!  Your active support and cooperation, combined with our best professional efforts will ensure success for your child.  Our academic goal is to provide each student with a challenging and rigorous curriculum appropriate to his/her academic level.   We believe every child can improve and achieve academic success.  To this end, every child will be provided with quality instructional experiences, which recognize, support, and maintain high expectations for all students.

We would like to invite you to our Mulberry Welcome Back Fair on Thursday, August 8th from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. We will share information about the various programs we offer, as well as opportunities to take a tour of the campus, get free books from the Whittier public library, get information about our PBIS program and much more! There will also be food and goodies available for purchase. See attached flyer for details. Hope to see you here! Please note that for everyone's safety, no pets are allowed on school campuses at any time for any event. Service animals are welcome- documentation will be required in order to be allowed entry.

Tuesday, August 13th is the first day of school. Like every Tuesday during the year, it is an early release day. Grades 1-5 will dismiss at 1:35 Tuesday only. Kinder will dismiss at 11:35 the first week of school only. Regular release times for TK at 11:50 and Preschool at 12:30. Regular dismissal on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is 2:35 for grades 1-5 and 2:15 for kinder. If you have multiple children, you can select 1 gate to pick up all of your kiddos, just let teachers know so they can coordinate. Attention 3rd grade families: please note that pick up for 3rd grade is behind the cafeteria on the Gunn drive with grades 4 and 5. Please see the attached document for additional information and a visual of each pick up area.

Parents may walk students on campus the first day of school. Gates will close at 8:10 as teachers take students to class and parents/guardians walk off campus. On the second day and on, you may drop children off at the front Mulberry or Gunn gate. Thank you for your cooperation.

Your child’s teacher will be added to the AERIES Parent Portal on Friday, August 9th at 4:00 pm. In order to maintain balanced, equitable classes, class changes and teacher requests are not honored.

Just a friendly reminder, consistent school attendance and punctuality is essential for your child’s success in school. Attendance and tardy problems hinder your child’s progress. If your child is absent, please call the school office or write a note explaining the reason for the absence within 2 weeks of the absence. School is in session starting at 8:10. Please see our handbook attached or on our website for more details or call the office.

Traffic is extra heavy the first few weeks of school. Please come early to get a parking spot, walk in the mornings, and for dismissal, come by about 10 minutes after the bell rings to avoid traffic in the afternoons. Remember that everyone has students to drop off and pick up- over 480 students attend Mulberry! Grades PreK-2nd are dismissed in the front Mulberry Drive and grades 3-5 and SH classes are dismissed at the side Gunn gate. Please do not leave vehicles unattended in the drive-up lanes and be courteous to other parents. The school cannot help you get out of traffic citations when given, please follow traffic laws. Thank you for your patience and the consideration of safety for all of our little ones.

Once again, welcome back to Mulberry School.   We look forward to working with you this year.  PARENTS ARE A VITAL part of the educational process.  We need your help and support to ensure your child's success.  If at any time during the year you have a question regarding your child, please contact your teacher via email, send a message or schedule an appointment. We’re looking forward to an outstanding year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Salamanca
